02Walkthrough

4 steps
  1. 01

    Create the project directory

The memory file lives at the root of the repository, next to the code.

    mkdir -p ~/project
  2. 02

    Write the commands

The two commands Claude will run most often. If they are wrong, everything the agent does afterwards is wrong too.

    echo '# CLAUDE.md\n\n## Commands\n\n- build: pnpm build\n- test: pnpm test -- --run\n- lint: pnpm lint' > ~/project/CLAUDE.md
  3. 03

Add the layout and the conventions

Say where things live and how the code should look. Keep it under a page - it is loaded every turn.

    echo '\n## Layout\n\n- src/components - the UI, one component per file\n- src/server - the API and the database access\n\n## Conventions\n\n- TypeScript strict mode\n- no default exports\n- every change comes with a test' >> ~/project/CLAUDE.md
  4. 04

    Verify and submit

cat the file, then submit for validation.

    cat ~/project/CLAUDE.md
