Write the Repository Instruction File
The agent reads the instruction file before it plans. Write one that says how to build, how to test and what the conventions are.
Validator
IDLE — checks run live as you type commands; submit when done
01Requirements
live checks- Directory ~/project exists○
- File ~/project/AGENTS.md exists○
- The file states the build and the test commands○
- The file states the conventions the agent must follow○
02Walkthrough
4 steps- 01
Create the project directory
The instruction file lives at the root of the repository, next to the code.
mkdir -p ~/project - 02
Write the heading and the commands
Start with the two commands that matter - the agent will run them, so they have to be exact.
echo '# AGENTS.md\n\n## Commands\n\n- build: pnpm build\n- test: pnpm test' > ~/project/AGENTS.md - 03
Add the conventions
Keep it short and concrete. Every line you add is a token the agent spends on every single run.
echo '\n## Conventions\n\n- TypeScript strict mode, no any\n- one component per file\n- every bug fix needs a regression test' >> ~/project/AGENTS.md - 04
Verify and submit
cat the file, then submit for validation.
cat ~/project/AGENTS.md
