Check the Licensing Rules
The suggestion is a starting point, not an answer - it may reproduce something you cannot ship. Write the rule your team follows.

01Requirements
live checks- File ~/copilot/legal/licensing.md exists○
- The document states the rule for generated code○
- The document states what to do when the origin of a snippet is unclear○
02Walkthrough
4 steps- 01
Create the legal directory
The licensing rules are part of the setup, so they are written down.
mkdir -p ~/copilot/legal - 02
Write the rule for generated code
Treat a suggestion like a snippet from a stranger. It is fine to use, and it is your responsibility to check it.
echo '# Licensing\n\n## The rule for generated code\n\nA suggestion is treated like a snippet from a stranger - it may be fine to use, and it is your responsibility to check it. No suggestion is merged without a human reading it.' > ~/copilot/legal/licensing.md - 03
Write the similarity and the open source rules
If the output is too similar to a licensed work, rewrite it. And the licence of the repository still applies to everything in it.
echo '\n## When the origin is unclear\n\n- if a suggestion is too similar to a licensed work, do not use it - rewrite the idea instead\n- the licence of the repository still applies to everything the assistant writes into it\n- anything derived from an open source dependency keeps the notice of that dependency\n- when in doubt, the review is the answer: read the code, and the history' >> ~/copilot/legal/licensing.md - 04
Verify and submit
cat the rules, then submit for validation.
cat ~/copilot/legal/licensing.md
